"Amii Stewart is an American singer, born on January 29, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia. She is the cousin of actress and singer Dee Dee Warwick.
Stewart began her career in 1974 as a dancer for disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder. She later signed with disco label Casablanca Records and released her first single, "Knock on Wood," in 1978. The song became a global hit, reaching number one in the UK and number two in the US.
Stewart released several other successful singles in the 1980s, including "Light My Fire" and "Friends." She also recorded a version of the classic song "You Keep Me Hangin' On," which became a hit in 1986.
In the 1990s, Stewart continued her career as a singer and released several albums, including "Amii Stewart" (1991), "Beautiful Dreams" (1992) and "Heart First" (1996).
In 2001, Stewart participated in the "Here and Now" tour, which paid tribute to 1970s and 1980s artists. In 2003, she released her first live album, "Live in Concert."
Stewart made a comeback in the early 2010s with the release of the album "7." In 2014, she released her most recent album to date, "Love Is."
Stewart has been awarded by the American Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and the NAACP Image Awards. She was also appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2004."
