BIOGRAPHY
Ray Parker Jr. is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is known for his solo hit "Ghostbusters" and for being the lead guitarist of the 1984 film's soundtrack.
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Parker began his musical career playing in local bands in the 1960s. He later joined the funk group The Chocolate Watchband in 1970. In 1974, he formed the group Raydio with Jerry Knight and Arnell Carmichael. The group released three albums and had a hit with the single "Jack and Jill".
In 1982, Parker was approached to write a song for the film Ghostbusters. He composed and recorded the song in just two days, and it became a worldwide success, reaching number one in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The song was nominated for an Oscar and won a Grammy.
Subsequently, Parker released several solo albums, including his most recent, "The Many Faces of Ray Parker Jr." in 2016. He continues to tour and perform at clubs and festivals.
