Biography of Basia Trzetrzelewska: Born on September 30, 1954, in Łódź, Poland, Basia Trzetrzelewska is a jazz-pop singer-songwriter of Polish and British descent. Raised in Łódź, Basia began studying classical music at her hometown's music conservatory at the age of ten. She was then admitted to the prestigious Fryderyk Chopin Music Conservatory in Warsaw at the age of 16, where she studied piano and composition for two years. After leaving the conservatory, Basia began her musical career playing piano in jazz clubs in Warsaw. In 1976, she joined the jazz-fusion group Novi Singers, with whom she recorded the albums Nowy Horyzont (1977) and Blue Note (1978). In 1981, Basia moved to London, where she met guitarist and composer Danny White. Together, they formed the jazz-pop group Basia. In 1985, the group released their first album, Time and Tide, which was a commercial success and reached number one on the UK charts. Despite Basia and Danny's separation in 1991, the group continued to record and tour. In 1994, they released the album The Sweetest Illusion, which was a critical and commercial success in Europe and the United States. In 2009, they released the album It's That Girl Again. Basia has also released two solo albums, London Warsaw New York (1989) and The Sweetest Illusion (1994). She has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has won two Brit Awards.
