Timex Social Club

BIOGRAPHY

Timex Social Club was an American dance music group from San Francisco, California, USA, best known for their 1986 hit single, "Rumors." The group was formed in 1984 by DJ/producer Jay King and initially consisted of rappers Charlie Rock and Mr. Black, as well as singer Marcus Thompson. The group's name was inspired by a popular watch brand, Timex Social Club, that was popular in the hip hop community at the time. The group's first single, "Rumors," was released in 1986 and became a surprise hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was included in the group's first album, Rumors, released in 1987. The group's follow-up single, "Thinkin' About Ya," was released in 1987 and reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The group's second album, Vicious Rumors, was released in 1988. The group's third and final album, Back to Basics, was released in 1990. The group disbanded shortly after its release. In 2006, the group's song "Rumors" was used in an advertisement for the Apple iPod nano. In 2013, the group's song "Thinkin' About Ya" was used in an advertisement for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
