Blur

BIOGRAPHY

Blur is a British rock band, formed in London in 1988, that truly made its mark in the 90s with a series of albums that redefined British independent rock. The band consists of Damon Albarn on vocals and keyboard, Graham Coxon on guitar, Alex James on bass, and Dave Rowntree on drums. Blur started their career with a musical style that oscillated between alternative rock and Britpop, quickly becoming a symbol of musical rivalry with Oasis in the battle for British rock supremacy in the 90s. This rivalry peaked in 1995 with the "Battle of Britpop," when Blur and Oasis released their singles "Country House" and "Roll With It" on the same day. Over time, Blur evolved to embrace a wide variety of musical styles, including electronic and hip hop, while still maintaining their unique musical identity. The band also demonstrated great versatility in producing touching ballads like "Tender" and catchy pop hits like "Girls & Boys." Blur has a total of eight studio albums, with five reaching the top spot on the British charts. Their most successful album is their fifth album, "Blur," which was certified quadruple platinum in the UK. The band took a hiatus in 2003, but reunited for a series of concerts in 2009. Since then, they have released a new album, "The Magic Whip," in 2015 and continue to occasionally perform live. Each member of the band has also had a successful solo career. Damon Albarn is probably the most well-known, having formed the band Gorillaz and worked on several successful musical projects. Blur remains one of the most influential and respected British rock bands of their generation, and their legacy can be heard in much of today's indie and alternative music.
