BIOGRAPHY
MGMT is an American psychedelic electronic music group, originally formed at Wesleyan University in 2002. Founding members, Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser, first called their group "The Management", but shortened it to MGMT to avoid naming conflict with another group.
The group gained popularity in 2007 with the release of their first album, "Oracular Spectacular", well received by critics. This album includes several singles that became international hits, such as "Kids", "Time to Pretend" and "Electric Feel". These songs captured the essence of MGMT's unique style, blending elements of psychedelic rock, electronic music and pop, with lyrics often focused on themes of nostalgia, dreams and social critiques.
MGMT continued to experiment with their sound in their subsequent albums, including "Congratulations" in 2010 and "MGMT" in 2013. While these albums received mixed reviews and did not reach the same commercial success as their first, they were praised for their innovation and artistic boldness.
The group released "Little Dark Age" in 2018, an album that marked a return to more accessible sounds while maintaining their penchant for experimentation and peculiarity. This album was well received by both critics and fans, reaffirming MGMT's place in the contemporary music scene.
MGMT is recognized for its unconventional approach to music and captivating live performances. They continue to influence numerous artists within and beyond psychedelic music and remain an important reference in the alternative music landscape.
