Break Machine

BIOGRAPHY

"Break Machine was a hip hop group from New York, primarily known for their successful 1984 single "Street Dance". The group formed in 1981, consisting of brothers Pierre David (a.k.a. DJ Pierre) and Jacques Morali (a.k.a. Jacques Morali), who had previously worked together on disco group The Ritchie Family. The other members of the group were rappers Keith "Cowboy" Wiggins and Lucien "Luci" Carrillo. The single "Street Dance" by Break Machine was a massive success in the UK, reaching number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1984. The song was also a hit in several other countries, including Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands. The group's follow-up single, "Breaking the Walls", did not achieve the same success, but their third single, "Are You Ready (To Rock 'n' Roll)", was a top 40 hit in the UK. Break Machine's album, Street Dance, was released in 1984 and reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. The group's second album, Breaking the Walls, was released in 1985 but did not chart. The group disbanded in 1986, but reunited in 1989 with a new lineup consisting of Wiggins, Carrillo, and rapper Andre "Dre" Williams. They released the single "Can You Feel It" in 1990, but it did not chart. The group disbanded again in 1991. In 2001, Wiggins and Carrillo reunited under the name Break Machine and released the album Old School, New School, No School. The album did not meet with success. Break Machine is best known for their hit single "Street Dance", which is still played on oldies radio stations today."
