Cyndi Lauper is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and producer born on June 22, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York. She left her mark on 1980s pop culture and achieved international success with her debut album, She's So Unusual (1983), which topped the charts in various countries and was certified quadruple platinum in the United States. Lauper has won two Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. She has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has received numerous accolades, including the MTV Video Music Award, the American Music Award, and the Tony Award. In 2002, she was appointed Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by France.
