Laura Branigan was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and music producer. She was active in the music and entertainment industry for over four decades. Her most popular songs include "Gloria", "Self Control", and "Solitaire".
Born in New York, Branigan began her acting career at the age of 13 and appeared in several stage plays and television films. She made her musical debut in 1978 by recording a version of Umberto Tozzi's song "Gloria". The title became an international hit, reaching number two in the US and number one in Canada. Branigan released her self-titled debut album in 1982, which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum in the US. The album produced several other hits, including "Self Control" and "Solitaire".
Throughout her career, Branigan released eight studio albums. She also appeared in several films and television films and was nominated for two Grammy Awards. Branigan passed away in 2004 at the age of 47 due to a cerebral aneurysm.
