BIOGRAPHY
Loletta Holloway, born May 13, 1946, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and music producer, specializing in the genres of R&B, soul, disco, and gospel. She is renowned for her 1970s and 1980s hits, such as "Hit and Run" and "Love Sensation."
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Holloway was raised in the Orange Mound neighborhood, brought up by her mother, a gospel singer. She began singing in her local churches before joining the gospel group The Gospelaires. In 1967, she signed with the label Stax Records and released her first single "Just a Little Bit of Lovin' (Will Go a Long Way)."
Her commercial breakthrough came in 1971 with the single "Hit and Run," which reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. She recorded several other singles for Stax, including "Can't Shake It Loose" and "L-O-V-E (Love)." In 1976, she left Stax to sign with the label Casablanca Records, subsequently releasing her biggest hit, "Love Sensation," which topped the charts in the UK and reached the Top 10 in the US.
Holloway continued to record and perform live throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1993, she joined the disco group Thelma Houston and the disco-funk group Musique. She released several solo albums, including "Love Has Finally Come at Last" (1996) and "Dreamin'" (2000). In 2006, she was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.
