Paul Simon

BIOGRAPHY

Paul Frederic Simon, born on October 13, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. He is regarded as one of the best pop and rock musicians of his generation. Simon began writing songs in the 1950s and formed the duo Simon & Garfunkel with Art Garfunkel in 1964. The duo's first album, "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.", was a commercial failure, but their second album, "Sounds of Silence", gained unexpected success after the single "The Sound of Silence" was covered by the folk group The Byrds. The duo's third album, "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme", and fourth album, "Bookends", were both commercial successes and established the duo as one of the most popular groups of the late 1960s. The duo's fifth album, "Bridge over Troubled Water", was even more successful and was met with critical acclaim. After the duo's separation, Simon continued to pursue a successful solo career, releasing his first solo album, "Paul Simon", in 1972. He achieved commercial success with his second album, "There Goes Rhymin' Simon", in 1973, which included the singles "Kodachrome" and "Loves Me Like a Rock". Simon continued to experiment with different genres and sounds on his subsequent albums, including "Still Crazy After All These Years" (1975), "One-Trick Pony" (1980), and "Hearts and Bones" (1983). In 1986, he released "Graceland", a critically-acclaimed album recorded in South Africa. The album was a commercial success and allowed Simon to reconnect with a younger audience. He released two duo albums with Ray Charles and Willie Nelson in 1991 and 1993, respectively, and continued to release solo albums every two to three years until the late 2000s. In 2011, Simon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Simon & Garfunkel. In 2016, he was honored by the Kennedy Center Honors. In 2018, he was named Commander of the Legion of Honor by French President Emmanuel Macron. Simon has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and has received numerous accolades, including 12 Grammy Awards.
