"Irene Fornaciari, also known as Spagna, is an Italian singer-songwriter. She is best known for her 1987 hit single, "Call Me", which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.
Spagna was born in Bologna, Italy. She began her musical career at the beginning of the 1980s, releasing her first single, "Easy Lady", in 1986. The song became a hit in the top ten in Italy, propelling Spagna into international spotlight.
In 1987, Spagna released her second single, "Call Me". The song was an instant hit, reaching the top ten in several countries, including the UK, where it reached number two. "Call Me" remains to this day Spagna's most successful single.
Spagna's first album, "Dedicated to the Moon", was released in 1988. The album was a commercial success, reaching the top ten in Italy and the top twenty in the UK.
At the beginning of the 1990s, Spagna began to focus on her career as a songwriter, co-writing several hits for other artists, including "La Solitudine" by Laura Pausini and "Più Bella Cosa" by Eros Ramazzotti.
