In the 1960s, he returned to cinema with films such as Les Aventuriers (1967), Les Choses de la vie (1970) and Le Temps des cerises (1972). He continued to record music and perform on stage until his death in 1991. Yves Montand was elected to the Académie des Arts and Lettres in 1983 and named Commander of the Légion d'honneur in 1986.
