Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., also known by his stage name Lil Wayne, is an American rapper, music producer, and entrepreneur born on September 27, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lil Wayne grew up in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his musical career at the age of 11 as a member of the rap group B.G. 'z. Wayne then joined the record label Cash Money Records in 1997 at the age of 15 and made his debut with the label's album, 400 Degreez. Throughout his career, Lil Wayne has released 12 studio albums, including his most recent, Funeral, released in 2020. His albums Tha Carter III and Tha Carter IV have been ranked among the greatest rap albums of all time by several publications, including Rolling Stone, XXL, and Pitchfork. In 2009, Lil Wayne was named Artist of the Year by Billboard, and in 2018, he was ranked among the 100 greatest artists of all time by the magazine. Lil Wayne has also been involved in several controversies, including for his explicit lyrics and for being arrested several times for marijuana possession. In 2020, Lil Wayne received criticism for supporting American president Donald Trump.
