Artur Balsam (1908-1994) was a Polish-American pianist and conductor. Born in Warsaw, he studied at the Warsaw Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. He made his debuts in Warsaw in 1926 and in Berlin in 1927. He immigrated to the United States in 1929 and became a citizen in 1935. He made his American debut in 1930 with the New York Philharmonic. He toured the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician, and also conducted orchestras. He recorded numerous records, both as a soloist and conductor. He taught at the Juilliard School, Mannes College of Music, and Queens College. He died in New York City.
