Jan Vayne is a Dutch classical pianist, born in Amsterdam in 1966. He studied classical piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Jan Wijn and Jaap van Zweden, as well as with Rudolf Serkin, Paul Badura-Skoda, and Alfred Brendel. In 1986, he won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, which led to a tour in Europe, North America, and Asia. In 1987, Jan Vayne released his first album, "Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2," with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Edo de Waart. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He has since recorded several other albums, including works by Tchaikovsky and Chopin. Known for his sensitivity and virtuosity, Jan Vayne was named "Pianist of the Year" by the Dutch music magazine "Vrije Geluiden" in 1994 and has won several other prestigious awards. He has performed with many renowned orchestras, such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Prague Philharmonic. In addition to his musical career, Jan Vayne has been honored with several distinctions, including Commander of the Legion of Honor in 2006, Commander of the Order of the Dutch Lion in 2007, and Commander of the Order of the Polish Star in 2009. Jan Vayne is considered one of the greatest classical pianists of his generation.
