Urodził się 18 października 1884 roku w Paryżu, we Francji, rozpoczął swoją karierę grając muzykę klasyczną, aby szybko skupić się na jazzie i bluesie. Jego pierwszy album, "Jazz Hot", nagrany w 1924 roku, odniósł ogromny sukces. Lokee kontynuował nagrania i występy na żywo aż do swojej śmierci, 8 marca 1963 roku.
