Kiri Te Kanawa ist eine Musikkünstlerin, geboren am 6. März 1944 in Gisborne, Neuseeland. Sie gilt als eine der besten Sopranistinnen ihrer Generation. Te Kanawa studierte an der University of Auckland und verfolgte dann ihre musikalische Laufbahn in Europa. Ihr professionelles Debüt gab sie 1966 in Glyndebourne als Pamina in Mozarts "Die Zauberflöte". 1971 sang sie die Rolle der Fiordiligi in Mozarts "Così fan tutte" an der Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. 1972 wurde sie zum Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) ernannt und 1990 zur Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). 2000 wurde sie zur Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) ernannt. Te Kanawa hat eine Vielzahl von Opernarien gesungen, wie Violetta in Verdis "La Traviata", Tosca in Puccinis "Tosca" und Susanna in Mozarts "Le Nozze di Figaro". Sie hat auch mehrere Alben mit Pop- und klassischer Musik aufgenommen. Te Kanawa gilt als eine der besten Sopranistinnen ihrer Generation. Sie wurde 1990 zur Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) und 2000 zur Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) ernannt.
