Alannah Myles is a Canadian singer and songwriter born on December 25, 1958, in Toronto. She grew up in Southern Ontario. Myles began her music career playing blues in Toronto clubs. In 1987, she signed with Atlantic Records and released her first album, Alannah Myles, in 1989. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the US. It was also certified diamond in Canada. The album produced the singles "Black Velvet" and "Love Is", both of which topped the Billboard Hot 100. In 1991, Myles released her second album, A-Lan-Nah, which reached number five on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the US. The album produced the single "Our World, Our Times", which reached number 49 on the Hot 100. In 1995, Myles released her third album, Rockinghorse, which did not match the success of her first two albums. In 1998, she released her fourth album, A-lannah, which was not successful. In 2005, Myles released her fifth album, A-LAN-NAH, which was certified gold in Canada. In 2009, she released her sixth album, Black Velvet, which was certified platinum in Canada. In 2012, Myles released her seventh album, The Very Best of Alannah Myles, which was certified gold in Canada. In 2015, Myles released her eighth album, Myles to Go, which was not successful.
