Def Leppard is a British rock band from Sheffield, England, formed in 1977 by guitarist Steve Clark and singer Joe Elliott. The band rose to international fame in the 1980s and 1990s with albums like Pyromania and Hysteria, characterized by their heavy metal guitars and vocal harmonies.
In 1979, Def Leppard signed with Mercury Records and released their debut album, On Through the Night. Their second album, High 'n' Dry, followed in 1981, produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, helping shape their unique sound.
Def Leppard's breakthrough came in 1983 with their third album Pyromania, which was a commercial success and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 in the US. It has been certified diamond in the US for sales exceeding 10 million copies.
In 1987, their fourth album Hysteria surpassed Pyromania's success and topped the Billboard 200. It has also been certified diamond in the US for sales of over 12 million copies.
The band continued to release successful albums throughout their career, including Adrenalize (1992), Euphoria (1999), X (2002), and Songs from the Sparkle Lounge (2008). In 2011, they released their eleventh album Mirror Ball - Live & More, which was another commercial success.
