Denise LaSalle (born Denise Williams; August 24, 1939 - January 8, 2018) was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. She is best known for her hit "Trapped by a Thing Called Love" (1971). Born in Trion, Georgia, LaSalle moved to Chicago in the 1950s. She began her career singing in clubs and working as a session musician. In the 1960s, she began recording for various labels, including Chess Records and Brunswick Records. She had her first success with the single "My Toot Toot" (1964), which reached number one on the R&B chart and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. In the 1970s, LaSalle began working with producer Willie Mitchell and released a series of successful albums, including Love Me Right (1970), Trapped by a Thing Called Love (1971) and Now Run and Tell That (1972). She also had several hit singles, including "Trapped by a Thing Called Love" (1971), "Now Run and Tell That" (1972) and "Man Sized Job" (1973). In the 1980s and 1990s, LaSalle continued to release albums and singles, although she did not reach the same level of success as in the 1970s. In 2006, she was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. LaSalle died on January 8, 2018, at the age of 78.
