BIOGRAPHY
Feargal Sharkey is a Northern Irish singer and musician, born on August 13, 1958, in Derry. He is best known for being the lead singer of the punk band The Undertones.
Raised in the Bogside area of Derry, Sharkey attended St. Columb's College. In 1974, he joined The Undertones, a punk rock group formed by his friends John O'Neill, Damian O'Neill, Michael Bradley, and Billy Doherty. The band found success with songs like "Teenage Kicks" and "Here Comes the Summer".
Sharkey left The Undertones in 1983 to pursue a solo career. His debut solo album, Wish, was released in 1985 and reached number one in the UK. He subsequently released two more albums, Listen to Your Father (1989) and Songs from the Mardi Gras (1991).
In 1995, Sharkey was appointed artistic director of Radio City 96.7, a Liverpool-based radio station. In 2006, he became the president of the British Phonographic Industry.
Sharkey was made a Knight of the Order of the British Empire in 2014.
