BIOGRAPHY
Billy Gibbons is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter born on December 16, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He is renowned for being the lead guitarist and singer of the rock band ZZ Top.
Gibbons grew up in the Lindale Park neighborhood of Houston and started playing the guitar at the age of 11, influenced by blues and rock and roll guitarists such as B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Bo Diddley, as well as jazz guitarists like Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery.
In the 1960s, Gibbons played in several rock and roll bands, including The Moving Sidewalks, which shared the stage with Jimi Hendrix. In 1969, he founded ZZ Top with bassist and singer Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. The band achieved commercial success with albums like Tres Hombres and Eliminator, and won several Grammy Awards and American Music Awards.
Apart from ZZ Top, Gibbons has collaborated with music legends such as the Rolling Stones, the Who, Led Zeppelin, and Aerosmith, as well as with artists like B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, and Willie Nelson.
As a solo artist, Gibbons has released albums such as Afro-Cuban Blues (2017) and The Big Bad Blues (2018).
