Janet Jackson is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress, born on May 16, 1966, in Gary, Indiana.
In the early 1980s, she began her career as a singer and dancer in the pop music group Jackson 5. She later pursued a solo career and gained international success with her second album, "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814," released in 1989. The album and its hit single, "Rhythm Nation," topped the charts in the United States and Canada and reached the top five in Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
Her following album, titled "janet.," released in 1993, sold over seven million copies worldwide and included hits such as "That's the Way Love Goes," "Again," and "Because of Love." In 1996, Jackson signed a five-album contract with Virgin Records for $80 million, and her album "The Velvet Rope" reached number one on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
In 2001, Jackson released her eighth album, "All for You," which included the number-one hit "All for You" worldwide. Her ninth album, "Damita Jo," was released in 2004 and sold over three million copies worldwide. Jackson released her tenth album, "20 Y.O.," in 2006, and her eleventh album, "Discipline," in 2008.
Jackson has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making her one of the best-selling female artists of all time. She has been awarded by several music associations, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. In 1993, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2009, she received the Legend Award at the World Music Awards.
