John Carpenter is an American director, screenwriter, and composer born on January 16, 1948, in Carthage, Missouri. Carpenter began his directorial career with the horror film Dark Star in 1974. He went on to direct several cult films of the 1970s and 1980s, including Halloween, Halloween: The Night of the Mask, Big Trouble in Little China, and Christine. He also composed the music for many of his films, including Halloween, Christine, and They Live. In 1998, Carpenter received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. He was also nominated for the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2007 for his film Halloween.
