BIOGRAPHY
Jon Anderson is a British singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer, born on October 25, 1944, in Lancashire. He is best known for being the lead singer and main songwriter of the progressive rock band Yes, a position he held for nearly forty years.
Anderson dropped out of school at the age of 15 to become a printer. In 1960, he joined the rock and roll band The Warriors, before co-founding the band Yes with Chris Squire in 1968. The band achieved both commercial and critical success with their 1971 album Fragile, which reached fourth place on the Billboard 200, and their 1972 album Close to the Edge, which reached fifth place. In 1980, Anderson left Yes to form the progressive rock supergroup Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe with Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe, before rejoining Yes in 1989.
Anderson has also recorded and produced numerous solo albums, as well as collaborations with Vangelis, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Kitarō. In 2005, Anderson was ranked 66th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. In 2017, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes.
