Kate Bush (born July 30, 1958) is an English singer-songwriter, dancer, and record producer. She has released twenty-five singles that have charted in the Top 40 in the UK, including hits such as "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill", "Don't Give Up", and "King of the Mountain".
Bush was born in Bexleyheath, Kent, to English father Robert Bush and mother Hannah Daly. She was raised on a farm in East Wickham with her brothers, Paddy and John, in the Catholic faith. At the age of three, her father bought her a piano, which sparked her interest in music. She began taking singing lessons at the age of 11 and later studied music, dance, and theater at the Royal College of Music in London.
Bush's musical style has been characterized as "art rock", "avant-pop", "experimental", and "gothic". Her eclectic musical influences range from the work of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire to the songs of French chanson singer Édith Piaf. Bush has also been influenced by literature, particularly the works of William Blake, Lewis Carroll, and James Joyce.
