BIOGRAPHY
Neneh Cherry is a Swedish singer, songwriter, producer, and actress born on March 10, 1964, in Stockholm.
Raised in a musical family, Cherry's father, Moki Cherry, was a jazz musician and a prominent figure in the Swedish music scene, while her mother, Monika Karlsson, was a jazz singer and actress. Cherry began her musical career as part of punk rock band The Slits in 1979. Following their disbandment in 1982, she pursued a solo career and released her first album, Raw Like Sushi, in 1988. The album was a commercial and critical success, and contributed to popularizing the trip hop genre. Cherry went on to release two more albums, Homebrew (1992) and Man (1996), before shifting her focus to her acting and producing career.
Cherry has appeared in several films and television shows throughout her career, including Buffalo Soldiers (1997), The Sopranos (1999-2007), and The Good Wife (2009-2016). In addition to her musical and artistic career, Cherry is also involved in various social and political causes. She is a member of the board of directors of the non-profit organization Women for Women International, which helps women who have been affected by war and conflict to rebuild their lives. Cherry is also a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF.
