BIOGRAPHY
Philippe Lavil is a French singer and musician, born on July 28, 1953, in Cayenne, Guyana. He is known for his songs in Creole and his collaborations with the group Kassav'.
Raised in Martinique, Lavil was influenced by Creole music and zouk. He began his career playing in clubs in Martinique and Guadeloupe. In 1977, he joined the group Kassav', which popularized zouk worldwide.
Lavil left Kassav' in 1984 to pursue a solo career. He released several albums, including "Ti Kafé" (1985), "Soleil d'Hiver" (1986), and "Tout l'Univers" (1989). In 1994, he resumed his collaboration with Kassav' for the album "Ça Fait Rire Les Oiseaux".
Lavil is also involved in several humanitarian projects, particularly in Haiti. In 2010, he participated in the campaign "Tous unis pour Haïti" to raise funds after the earthquake that hit the island.
Philippe Lavil is considered one of the most important representatives of Creole music. His songs have been translated into several languages, and he is acclaimed for his talent as a composer and musician.
