BIOGRAPHY
Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese composer, pianist, and music producer born on January 17, 1952, in Tokyo.
Sakamoto began his career in 1968 as a member of the psychedelic rock group Yellow Magic Orchestra. The group achieved international success with their first album in 1978, and Sakamoto subsequently pursued a prolific solo career, collaborating with numerous renowned artists and composers.
Sakamoto has composed music for several films, including Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983), The Last Emperor (1987), and The Revenant (2015). He has also won numerous awards, including an Oscar, a Grammy, and a BAFTA.
In 2016, Sakamoto was diagnosed with throat cancer and canceled all of his commitments to focus on his health.
