"Shocking Blue is a Dutch rock band from The Hague. It was formed in 1967 by Robby van Leeuwen and was active until 1974. The group is best known for its single "Venus", released in 1969, which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and is considered one of the first successes of the disco genre.
The group was formed in 1967 by Robby van Leeuwen, a former member of The Motions. Initially influenced by garage rock and psychedelic rock, the group later turned to a more pop and commercial style. Their first single, "Love Buzz", was released in 1968 and reached the fourth spot on the Dutch charts.
Their biggest success came with the single "Venus", released in 1969. This single reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and is considered one of the first successes of the disco genre. The group also had success in Europe with singles such as "Send Me a Postcard" and "Long and Lonesome Road".
The group disbanded in 1974, but reunited in 1981 with Mariska Veres as the lead singer. The group continued to tour and record until the death of Veres in 2006. Following her death, the group was joined by Gwen Stefani, lead singer of No Doubt, for a tour in 2007."
