Soul Asylum is an American rock band originating from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 1983 under the name Loud Fast Rules, the band changed its name to Soul Asylum the following year. The group gained commercial success with the album Grave Dancers Union in 1992, which reached second place on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum. Three singles from this album made it to the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100: "Runaway Train", "Black Gold", and "Misery". In 1995, Soul Asylum won a Grammy Award for "Runaway Train".
