BIOGRAPHY
Tony Allen, musician, singer, and producer, was born on August 12, 1943, in Lagos, Nigeria. He began his musical career playing conga in Lagos clubs in the 1960s. He later joined Fela Kuti's band, Nigeria 70, with whom he recorded several albums and participated in numerous tours.
After leaving Nigeria 70, Tony Allen continued his solo career, recording several albums and collaborating with various artists such as Manu Dibango, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Miles Davis, and Damon Albarn.
In 2013, he was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture.
Tony Allen is recognized as one of the best African jazz drummers of all time.
