Whitney Houston was an American artist born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, known for being one of the most popular and influential pop singers of her generation. With over 200 million records sold worldwide, she is considered the female artist with the most sales in the history of music. She has won numerous prestigious awards, including six Grammy Awards, 30 American Music Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, two Emmy Awards, one Tony Award, and three MTV Video Music Awards. In 1993, she was named the sexiest woman in the world by People magazine. In addition to her musical career, Whitney Houston was also recognized for her philanthropic work, supporting various causes and working for peace in the world. In 2009, she was even honored with the Legion of Honor by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Unfortunately, Whitney Houston passed away on February 11, 2012, in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 48.
