BIOGRAPHY

Yves Montand, born Ivo Livi on October 13, 1921 in Monsummano Terme, Italy, saw his parents immigrate to France in 1924 and settle in Marseille. He began working in the fields at the age of 8 and held various jobs, such as worker, miner, and stevedore, before becoming a singer. Yves Montand is a French-Italian singer and actor, born on October 13, 1921 in Monsummano Terme, Italy and died on November 9, 1991 in Beverly Hills, California. His career began in 1941 with performances in cafes-concerts and jazz clubs. He made his film debut in 1944 in Les Portes de la nuit by Marcel Carné. He gained international fame with Les Feuilles mortes (1945), Les Portes de la nuit (1946) and Monsieur Vincent (1947). In the 1950s, Yves Montand devoted himself to singing, recording several successful albums and appearing in films such as La Strada (1954) by Federico Fellini, Les Diaboliques (1955) by Henri-Georges Clouzot and Les Misérables (1958) by Jean-Paul Sartre. In the 1960s, he returned to cinema with films such as Les Aventuriers (1967), Les Choses de la vie (1970) and Le Temps des cerises (1972). He continued to record music and perform on stage until his death in 1991. Yves Montand was elected to the Académie des Arts and Lettres in 1983 and named Commander of the Légion d'honneur in 1986.
