BIOGRAPHY
Bronski Beat is a British new wave and synth-pop music group formed in London in 1983. The group consisted of Jimmy Somerville (lead vocals), Steve Bronski (keyboards) and Larry Steinbachek (drums). The group gained international success with their single "Smalltown Boy", which reached number three in the UK in 1984. Their debut album, The Age of Consent, was certified gold in the UK and reached number five on the charts. The group also had success with the single "Why?", which reached number eleven in the UK in 1985. The group disbanded in 1988 after the release of their third album, Truthdare Doubledare. Somerville went on to have a successful solo career, while Bronski and Steinbachek formed the group The Communards.
