BIOGRAPHY
Carmen McRae is an American jazz singer born on April 8, 1922 in Harlem, New York. She started her career in New York jazz clubs in the 1940s, and later recorded numerous albums for the Decca Records label. McRae is considered one of the finest interpreters of Thelonious Monk's music, and was also influenced by pianist Bill Evans. In 1977, she received the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for her album Can't Hide Love. McRae passed away on November 10, 1994 in Beverly Hills, California.
