BIOGRAPHY
Chi Thanh is a Vietnamese musician born in 1963 in Hanoi. He grew up in the Vietnamese capital and studied classical music at the Hanoi Conservatory. In 1982, he was admitted to the Fine Arts Academy of Hanoi, where he specialized in electroacoustic music. After graduating, he worked as a musician and composer for the National Opera and the Vietnam Ballet. In 1991, he was invited to participate in an electroacoustic music workshop in Graz, Austria, where he discovered the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen, which deeply influenced him. Subsequently, in 1992, he joined the Research and Acoustic/Music Coordination Institute (IRCAM) in Paris to study composition and musical informatics. During his stay in the French capital, he also perfected his knowledge of contemporary music at the National Superior Conservatory of Music in Paris. Back in Vietnam in 1995, Chi Thanh created the Hanoi Electroacoustic Music Ensemble (EMEH), becoming one of the most active ensembles in this field in Vietnam. In 2003, he was awarded by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture for his entire body of work.
