Marvin Gaye was an American music artist born on April 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C. He began his career in the 1950s as a singer and pianist in doo-wop groups. In 1960, he signed a contract with Motown Records and later gained international success with hits such as "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Gaye was also a pioneer of soul music, and his albums "What's Going On" and "Let's Get It On" became classics of the genre. Gaye had a tumultuous personal life and was killed by his father in 1984.
