The Free was a German rock band founded in Hamburg in 1968 by singer and guitarist Paul Kossoff, bassist Andy Fraser, singer Simon Kirke, and keyboardist Taff Williams. The band was known for their strong blues influence and Kossoff's guitar virtuosity. They released four albums during their short career and had several hit singles, including "All Right Now", which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1970. The Free disbanded in 1972 due to Kossoff's drug addiction and health issues, but briefly reunited in 1973 with Paul Rodgers of Bad Company taking Kossoff's place. The band's final album, Heartbreaker, was released in 1974. Kossoff passed away in 1976 at the age of 25 from a pulmonary embolism.
