De La Soul is an American hip-hop group from Long Island, New York, consisting of three MCs: Posdnuos, Trugoy, and Maseo. The group is considered one of the pioneers of the alternative hip-hop style. De La Soul first debuted with the critically acclaimed album 3 Feet High and Rising in 1989. Their second album, De La Soul Is Dead, was released in 1991 and was marked by a darker and more political tone than their first album. This was followed by Buhloone Mindstate in 1993, and the group took a break in the 1990s. They made their comeback in 2004 with the album The Grind Date and have continued to release albums sporadically since then.
