Josef Salvat is an Australian singer and composer born in Sydney. He grew up in Spain and France, and studied classical piano and composition before pursuing a musical career. His melancholic and introspective songs quickly caught the attention of the public and critics, leading him to sign with Universal Music in 2012. He released his first album, In Your Prime, in 2014, followed by the EP Night Swim in 2016. In 2018, he released his second album, Modern Anxiety. Josef Salvat has been compared to artists such as Bon Iver, The National, and Sufjan Stevens, with his songs being described as "melancholic, introspective, and catchy".
