Alan Banks is an English musical artist born on August 2, 1952, in Birmingham, England. He began his musical career playing guitar in Birmingham's clubs during the 1960s. In 1967, he joined the psychedelic rock band The Misunderstood. After their breakup in 1969, Banks became the guitarist and singer of the progressive rock band Yes until 1974. He then decided to pursue a solo career and released his first solo album, The Alan Banks Album, in 1977, followed by Two Sides of Alan Banks (1979) and Alan Banks 3 (1981). In 1983, he joined the progressive rock band Asia as a guitarist and singer, until 1985, before returning to his solo career with the release of the album Changes in 1986. He continued with the albums Touch (1988) and Alan Banks 5 (1990). In 1992, he rejoined the band Yes until 1994, followed by the release of his fifth solo album, In the Name of Love, in 1995, followed by Alan Banks 6 (1997) and Alan Banks 7 (1999). In 2001, he joined Yes again until 2004, before dedicating himself to his solo career with the release of The Alan Banks Album in 2005, followed by Alan Banks 9 (2007) and Alan Banks 10 (2009).
