Steve Allen fue un artista musical, presentador de televisión y actor estadounidense. Nació el 26 de diciembre de 1921 en Nueva York y falleció el 30 de octubre de 2000 en Los Ángeles. Allen comenzó su carrera como presentador de radio en los Estados Unidos, pero fue en la televisión donde alcanzó la fama. Es especialmente conocido por ser el primer anfitrión de "The Tonight Show", un programa de variedades nocturno en NBC, a partir de 1954. Sus sketches serios, sus entrevistas en profundidad con celebridades y sus sketches cómicos lo hicieron una figura popular en la televisión estadounidense. Como músico, Allen era un pianista talentoso. Escribió más de 14 000 canciones, muchas de las cuales fueron grabadas por artistas populares. También escribió varios libros sobre comedia, televisión y música. A pesar de su éxito, Steve Allen también fue controvertido. Algunas de sus declaraciones y acciones fueron criticadas como racistas y misóginas. Sin embargo, dejó un legado significativo en la industria del entretenimiento estadounidense.
