BIOGRAPHY
Diamanda Galás is a avant-garde music artist and jazz singer born on August 30, 1955 in San Diego, California. Galás grew up in a Greek family and studied classical music and piano from a young age. She later studied jazz in university and began performing in jazz clubs in San Francisco. In 1979, she released her first album, "The Litanies of Satan", which caused a sensation in the avant-garde music scene. Galás continued to explore new musical territories with her subsequent albums, "The Divine Punishment" (1984), "Saint of the Pit" (1986) and "Defixiones, Will and Testament" (1996). In addition to her solo career, Galás has collaborated with various artists such as John Zorn, Bill Laswell and Marc Ribot. She has also made appearances in several films, including "The Hunger" (1983) and "Requiem for a Dream" (2000). Galás is an extremely prolific artist and continues to release new albums at a steady pace. She currently resides in New York.
