BIOGRAPHY
The Maisonettes were an English new wave band, formed in 1979 in Deptford, South London. The band members were lead vocalist and guitarist Simon Monckton, keyboardist and guitarist Mark Bedford, bassist and guitarist Gary Tibbs, and drummer Steve Grantley. The band's name was inspired by the French word for "house", maison.
The band's first single, "Heartache Avenue", was released in 1982 and reached the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. The band's second single, "I Wish It Would Rain", was released in 1983 and reached the Top 30 of the UK Singles Chart. The band's first album, Love Hangover, was released in 1983 and reached the Top 30 of the UK Albums Chart. The band's second album, United Colours of Sound, was released in 1984 and reached the Top 40 of the UK Albums Chart.
The band disbanded in 1985, but reunited in 2004 for a reunion tour.
